en-Dance Of Hearts - Byrd Nash review

13/08/2020

In Regency England, 1816, it is not fashionable to display fairy blood.

Melinda Wychwood managed to stay at her family home after her father's death by working as her cousin's unpaid housekeeper. But when a childhood friend returns, playing a game of deception, will she be satisfied acting as the dowdy chaperone? Or will her wild fairy heritage and a magical dress finally win her true happiness?

A Cinderella retelling as a historical romance with a touch of fairytale magic and a happily ever after ending.

I had the Chance to be an ARC reader for this lovely book, and I loved it immediately. It was love at first page.

The story begins rather mysterious, so we're drawn into it from the very beginning. It's a Cinderella retelling, and I've red a few different ones before, and it never gets boring. I know the story by heart, but there's a twist to it that makes it totally different and so much more interesting. I loved how Byrd Nash made a combination of a historical romance and a classic retelling. It's a perfect combination and it takes the story to a whole new level.

I adored Melinda's character. She is a strong woman, who takes life the way it comes around. She's not sad or angry at the world even though she is treated badly by her own distant family. She is also very down to earth and doesn't pity herself. She takes what she gets and makes the best out of it for herself.

It's a short story that felt natural. Sometimes short stories look like a big book being pressed into a tiny one so everything feels rushed and exaggerated. This wasn't the case with this short story. It's a quick read with a lovely and clean romantic story. Nothing is rushed, it all feels very natural and clean. It feels like you are reading a regular big book, except for the moment that it's finished, when you'd want to continue reading but realize you are at the end of it. I loved the undertone of Jane Austen in this one. It's not dominating the story, it's more of a slight touch to the story, which makes it amazing!

The love story is so cute. Cheesy but oh so cute! I loved every second of it. And to be honest, I'm jealous of her ball gown. I want one for myself! I don't want to spoil anything, but oh god what a lovely dress!!!

Definitely recommending this book!!!

I can't wait to read more historical fantasy fairytale retellings from Byrd Nash! I'm really looking forward to it.
