en-I Would Leave Me If I Could - Halsey Review

04/02/2021

In this debut collection, Halsey bares her soul. Bringing the same artistry found in her lyrics, Halsey's poems delve into the highs and lows of doomed relationships, family ties, sexuality, and mental illness. More hand grenades than confessions, these autobiographical poems explore and dismantle conventional notions of what it means to be a feminist in search of power.

Masterful as it is raw, passionate, and profound, I Would Leave Me If I Could signals the arrival of an essential voice.

I'm usually not really a fan of poetry. But when Halsey's poetry book was out, I couldn't resist to buy it. I'm a great fan of Halsey's music and she's like a god to me. So I really needed to read her poetry and give it a shot.

It was not the kind of thing I expected it to be, but I was really surprised by how much I liked it. Not even liked it but loved it actually. These poems are so dark, and they hit you right in the feels. And I am so surprised to read all of this. Halsey really gave us a look into her life, even the dark pages. It takes courage to do so!

The poems are about different topics. Some are happy poems, and some are sad and have a darker touch to them. I really liked that there were lyrics inside some of the poems. I easily recognized them and it gave the lyrics an extra meaning.

So I want to say 'thank you' to Halsey. Thank you for sharing your story with us. And to give some women a voice when they are not able to. Thank you to stand up from the crowd to be who you want to be. You are such an inspiration to many women and teenagers. Thank You for existing.
