en-The Brightest Stars - Anna Todd review
Karina knows the harsh realities of military life. And like anyone who has grown up around an army base, she knows the background noise that follows a soldier home from war. That's why she's forging her own quiet life in her own little house. But she hasn't turned her back on her family. She's the glue that holds them together--when her father is deployed, when her brother, Austin, has another brush with the law.
Karina knows that she has to look after herself, that she can't always fix what's broken. But when Austin's behavior worsens and her father's reactions grow more extreme, Karina feels her own edges beginning to fray. That's when she meets him--a closed book she's desperate to open.
At just twenty, Kael is a handsome, brooding soldier struggling with the aftermath of two tours in Afghanistan. He's emotionally damaged and closed off. Quiet doesn't begin to describe him. But as Karina gets used to his stable presence, she finds it hard to ignore the way he makes her feel. In their time together, she finds the stillness she has always wanted and never found. She lets down her guard. And she lets herself fill in the blanks about this mysterious man.
But illusions quickly made are quickly shattered. That's when Karina has to find her own courage--to untangle the truth from the lies, and decide what she's going to do about it.
This one was such an amazing rollercoaster! Once again, a masterpiece by the amazing Anna Todd.
I loved this story so much! I was immediately drawn into it and I couldn't put it down anymore. The story itself is kind of realistic, not the whole military thing (at least not to me) but it didn't feel like a hopeless romantic love story. We see life through Karina's eyes. And I don't know a single thing about growing up on a military base, but I understood everything, and it was all well explained. This made the story so much easier to understand and more realistic to me.
Karina has to choose between 2 people she loves the most and she doesn't know who to choose. I really loved this part of the story because we get to see how torn she is because of the whole situation. She wants to do right to everyone, but one of them will get hurt, but who tells her the truth? She handled this situation so well! And this whole scene is so perfectly written, it felt like I was standing there with her. I really learned a lot from het on this part of the story and I think she is such an inspiring person.
Anna Todd is well known from her wattpad sensation 'After. It's not easy for an author to step out of this bubble and create something entirely new. But she did a great job! It does not feel like an 'After' book at all! It's something entirely new and it's special in its own way.
I really liked Karina's character. She is so down to earth and a strong and independent woman. I recognized myself in her sometimes. She has the same way of thinking and she always wants to do good for everyone. This made it easier for me to connect with her character during this story. I didn't like Kael's character very much if I have to be honest. He's so mysterious and he always seems to hide something from the world. I got a bad feeling towards his character and it seemed to me that he was not the person he wants everyone to think he is. This whole 'Hot n Cold' game he played with Karina made me dislike his character even more. But I must admit that this mysterious vibe around him was one of the reasons that kept me reading, because I really wanted to know what he was hiding.
I really loved this romance novel and it's one I could easily reread! I really liked that this was not just a hopeless romantic love story! I would definitely recommend this one!
