The Prince And The Dressmaker - Jen Wang review

26/03/2021

Paris, at the dawn of the modern age:
Prince Sebastian is looking for a bride―or rather, his parents are looking for one for him. Sebastian is too busy hiding his secret life from everyone. At night he puts on daring dresses and takes Paris by storm as the fabulous Lady Crystallia―the hottest fashion icon in the world capital of fashion!

Sebastian's secret weapon (and best friend) is the brilliant dressmaker Frances―one of only two people who know the truth: sometimes this boy wears dresses. But Frances dreams of greatness, and being someone's secret weapon means being a secret. Forever. How long can Frances defer her dreams to protect a friend? Jen Wang weaves an exuberantly romantic tale of identity, young love, art, and family. A fairy tale for any age, The Prince and the Dressmaker will steal your heart.

What a lovely Graphic Novel! I've been looking to read this one for a while now, so I couldn't let it pass when I saw it was being translated to Dutch.

It is such a fun and cute story. It's such a nice read and I had it finished in no time. What I really liked about this book, was the meaning and the message it holds. 'Everyone is different and has different hobbies. Everyone should be who he/she wants to be whatever their hobbies or dreams may be." I think this is such a beautiful message and necessary to share. Everyone needs to hear this message. It's not always easy in this society to be who you want to be, because you're always being critisized by others. And I really hate that. I think it is important to be who you want to be, whitout the feir of being left out or being discriminated by others. So I really loved that this book is sending this very important message.

The drawings are really nice and beautifully drawn. They clearly indicate what the author wants to say and they are a nice addition to the speech bubbles.

I think it is a great story, and this is a message that I also like to convey to the children at work. I will certainly add this book to our book collection at work. So that this book can also convey the message to the younger children.
