Skyward - Brandon Sanderson Review

22/07/2021

Spensa's world has been under attack for decades. Now pilots are the heroes of what's left of the human race, and becoming one has always been Spensa's dream. Since she was a little girl, she has imagined soaring skyward and proving her bravery. But her fate is intertwined with her father's--a pilot himself who was killed years ago when he abruptly deserted his team, leaving Spensa's chances of attending flight school at slim to none. No one will let Spensa forget what her father did, yet fate works in mysterious ways. Flight school might be a long shot, but she is determined to fly. And an accidental discovery in a long-forgotten cavern might just provide her with a way to claim the stars.

I've been looking forward to reading this pretty one, but I never had the chance, until now. I've read The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson a year ago, and I must say I was really surprised about it. That book made me curious about other series by him as well. I could not lose this opportunity to read the skyward-series from him.

I had high expectations from this one and it did not let me down. I was immediately drawn into the story, and I couldn't put it away anymore. The storyline is so fascinating, and it really got me addicted to it. It's full of unsolved mysteries from the past that makes you want to go on for all the answers.

I really liked Spenca's character. She's so strong and confident. She knows what she wants and she won't back down to get it.Everyone tries her to stop and quit her dream, but she only fights harder back. I really liked that about her and the fact that she refuses to let her life be ruled by demons from the past.

Some chapters start with a couple drawings from the space ships that are named in the following chapters. This makes it easier to visualize them and to understand the story.

I am really looking forward to read the next book in the skyward series.
