Valiant - Holly Black Review

15/02/2022

When seventeen-year-old Valerie runs away to New York, she’s trying to escape a life that has utterly betrayed her. Sporting a new identity, she takes up with a gang of squatters who live in the city’s labyrinthine subway system. But there’s something eerily beguiling about Val’s new friends that sets her on edge.
When Val is talked into tracking down the lair of a mysterious creature, she must strike a bargain to make it out with her life intact. Now drawn into a world she never knew existed, Val finds herself torn between her affection for an honorable monster and her fear of what her new friends are becoming.

I was so stoked to start this second book in the Faerie-trology. I was obsessed with the Elhame-serie and I was so in love with the first book in this series, that I was already hyping the second book as well before I even started it.

To be fairly honest with you guys, I did not really like this one. At first I did not understand at all what the link was between the previous book and this one. This made me kind of confused during the book. Second thing what really bothered me while reading, was the fact that using drugs was a normality in this book. I think as a young adult writer that you got to be careful about those thing. I wouldn't mind if a character would once say somehting about using drugs. But here it was a normality and the characters were using all the time and the story made it seem like something interesting and beautiful. I was kind of disgusted because of that.

The storyline was very chaotic and I didn't really understand at first what the story was about.

Long story short: This was not my favorite Holly Black Book. She has written books that are way better than this one. I am kind of scared to read the last one in this series now.
